Situation is tense along Indo-Bangladesh border in South Salmara-Mancachar district of Assam over push back of illegal infiltrators to Bangladesh by Border Security Force.
According to sources, in the wee hours today, 14 illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators were picked from the Matia detention camp in Golapara distrcit of Assam to South Salmara-Mancachar district to be pushed back to Bangladesh. At around 3:30 AM when Border Security Force personnel tried to push back the illegal infiltrators at the No Man’s Land, personnel of Border Guard Bangladesh turned up at the location and there was an exchange of words between the BSF and BGB personnel.
Reportedly, the situation soon got tense as personnel of the Border Security Force and the Border Guard Bangladesh got into a heated argument over deportation of the illegal Bangladeshis back to Bangladesh.
As per sources, the BSF was attempting to deport 14 illegal Bangladeshis to Bangladesh who had been nabbed earlier. The BGB raised objections and prevented the BSF from deporting the illegals into Bangladeshi territory. Presently, the illegal infiltrators were being let off at the No Man’s Land and they are still stranded in the area . As per sources, the higher officials of both BSF and BGB are currently engaged in discussions to sort out the matter. So far there is no official statement from BSF or BGB about the incident.
Singnificatly, on May 19, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued orders directing states and Union Territories to establish Special Task Forces in each district to detect, identify, and deport illegal immigrants, primarily from Bangladesh and Myanmar and set a 30 day deadline. This action is taken in response to rising concerns about national security and the alleged involvement of foreign elements in terror activities. The MHA also mandated that states maintain records of deportations and share monthly reports with the Centre.
