‘Sit, Talk, Put your Ideas on the Table’: Meghalaya CM to Political Parties Planning to Boycott Panel on Rail Projects

Mrghalaya CM acknowledged that the negative response from certain political parties has slowed the progress.
Amid growing concerns over railway projects in certain parts of Meghalaya, and some political parties deciding to boycott the proposed all-party committee on railways in the state, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has urged the political parties to reconsider their decision to stay away and come and talk and put forth their ideas.
Addressing media queries on the matter, Sangma acknowledged that the negative response from certain political parties has slowed the progress. He emphasized that the committee was envisioned to foster collective decision-making, transparency, and an open platform for debate.
“We got some negative responses from certain political parties, so we were not moving forward. It’s an important issue. My point is that whether you agree or don’t agree, at least sit, talk, and put your ideas on the table,” Sangma said.
The Chief Minister expressed disappointment at the refusal of some groups to participate, calling it “a very wrong message democratically.”
He stressed that even if consensus isn’t reached, open discussions would at least clarify the challenges and create space for possible solutions.
He reiterated his hope that parties would reconsider their stance and join the dialogue. “We may all agree, or disagree, but at least we’ll be basing our decisions on facts. Hopefully, we’ll find a way forward,” Sangma said.
If the impasse continues, Sangma hinted that the government will proceed to finalize meeting dates regardless, indicating the urgency of moving ahead on the contentious but crucial matter of rail connectivity in the state.
