Sikkim’s Minor Girl Lured by Facebook Friend Traced to Mizoram

Without informing her family, the girl left home and travelled over 1,169 kms across states to reach Mizoram.

A minor girl from Mangan in North Sikkim, who had gone missing since April 16, was successfully traced and rescued from Bilkhawthlir in Mizoram by a dedicated team from Mangan Police Station.

According to police sources, the girl had developed a friendship with a boy she met on Facebook. The boy allegedly promised her a job in Mizoram. Without informing her family, the girl left home and travelled over 1,169 kms across states to reach Mizoram.

Once the girl’s disappearance was reported, the police launched an urgent search operation. Under the leadership of Prashant Rai, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mangan Police Station, the team began tracking the girl’s mobile phone location. This digital trail eventually led them to Bilkhawthlir in Mizoram.

The police team rescued the girl safely and brought her back. Authorities have assured that further investigations are in progress to identify the person who lured the minor and to take strict action against all those involved.

Police have also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children’s online interactions, especially on social media platforms.
