Sikkim: Lower Samdong hit by heavy rain and windstorms, woman crushed to death by uprooted tree

A woman from Sikkim’s Gangtok died after a huge tree fell on her during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

The deceased woman has been identified as Saraswati Rai, wife of Santosh Rai who hails from Subhithang in Lower Samdong in Gangtok.

Yesterday around 4 PM, torrential rain accompanied by powerful winds wreaked havoc in Lower Samdong uprooting trees, blocking roads, and destroying houses and thereby killing the woman on the spot.

Police with the help of locals dug the ground around the uprooted tree, removed debris and pulled out the body of the woman.
