Sikkim University Prof gets a year in jail for sending explicit emails, messages to female colleague

A Professor of the Sikkim University has been sentenced to a year of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs. 5,000 for sending explicit emails and WhatsApp messages to a female professor of the University.
The judgement was passed by the Court of Judicial Magistrate in Gangtok yesterday.
The accused Professor has been identified as Dinesh Ahirwar, a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
Dinesh Ahirwar was arrested after the victim had filed a complaint against him at the by Ranipool Police Station, accusing him of sending explicit emails and WhatsApp messages to her and also unlawfully entering her rented room without invitation. She said that this has caused her distress and trauma.
A case was registered with the Ranipool Police Station regarding this and the case was heard at the Court of Judicial Magistrate in Gangtok yesterday.
During the hearing, the prosecution presented evidence indicating that Ahirwar had been sending explicit emails and WhatsApp messages to the female professor, in addition to unlawfully entering her rented room without invitation, causing significant distress and trauma to the victim. The charges against Ahirwar, filed by the Ranipool Police reflect the severity of the allegations and the legal ramifications.
