Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has unveiled the Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan App, a unique initiative to promote battlefield tourism across India. Among the key locations highlighted are the iconic Nathu La Pass and Cho La Pass in Sikkim, which played significant roles in India’s military history. The app is set to revolutionise tourism in the state, offering visitors a chance to explore historic battlegrounds while learning about the valor of the Indian Army.
Launched on the 77th Army Day, the Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan App serves as a gateway for travelers to discover over 75 historic military sites, including Siachen, Galwan, Kargil, and Longewala. The app provides engaging historical insights, first-hand accounts of bravery, and practical travel information, enriching the experience for tourists.
Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur praised the initiative, extending gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. “This initiative will not only showcase Sikkim’s forward posts as premier tourist destinations but will also inspire our younger generation by highlighting the valor and dedication of our soldiers,” said the Governor.
In addition to Nathu La and Cho La, other notable sites such as Doklam, Pangong Tso, and the Dras War Memorial are included, giving tourists an immersive experience of India’s military heritage. The initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, aims to preserve these historic locations while boosting tourism in border states like Sikkim, Ladakh, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the transformative impact of the project, noting a 30% surge in tourist arrivals in regions like Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim over the past four years. He attributed this growth to improved infrastructure and the increasing allure of border tourism.
