Sikkim to Participate in Prestigious Portugal Tourism Fair from March 12-16

Sikkim’s tourism sector is set to receive a major boost as the state has been invited to participate in the Better Tourism Lisbon (BTL) Travel Market 2025 Portugal’s largest international tourism fair following high-level discussions between Sikkim’s tourism delegation and the Indian Embassy in Lisbon.

A delegation led by Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister Tshering T. Bhutia visited Spain and Portugal as part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen global tourism ties and position Sikkim as a prime international travel destination. During the visit, the delegation engaged in crucial discussions with Indian Ambassador to Portugal, Puneet Roy Kundal, at the Indian Embassy in Lisbon on Friday.

Accompanying the minister were Principal Secretary C.S. Rao and Principal Chief Engineer Neeraj Pradhan from the Department of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Government of Sikkim. They were joined by First Secretary Asha Antony and embassy official Ronnie.

The discussions focused on investment opportunities, tourism promotion, and marketing strategies to enhance Sikkim’s global presence. Minister Bhutia highlighted Sikkim’s rich tourism potential, unique attractions, and state-backed incentives aimed at boosting foreign investment in the sector. Principal Secretary C.S. Rao delivered a detailed presentation outlining Sikkim’s strengths, untapped opportunities, and strategic areas for international investment.

Recognizing Sikkim’s tourism potential, Ambassador Puneet Roy Kundal extended an invitation for Sikkim to participate in the prestigious BTL Travel Market 2025, scheduled from March 12–16, 2025. The embassy assured full support to help Sikkim showcase its tourism offerings on an international platform and facilitate crucial business-to-business (B2B) interactions.

As part of its international tourism promotion initiative, the Sikkim delegation also participated in FITUR 2025 in Spain one of the world’s largest tourism trade fairs where they represented the state as co-exhibitors alongside the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
