The organizers said they are working hard to make the tournament more competitive and transparent.

The much-awaited Sikkim Premier League (SPL) Season 3 will officially kick off on April 10, 2025, with the grand opening ceremony scheduled to take place at Bhaichung Stadium in Namchi.

In a press conference held today, the tournament organizer, Football Development Private Limited (FDPL), confirmed that this season will feature nine teams—one more than the eight teams from the previous edition. The organizers said they are working hard to make the tournament more competitive and transparent.

FDPL addressed recent controversies in Indian football, including the Mizoram Premier League’s match-fixing scandal. They said they are determined to keep the SPL free from any unethical activities.

“We are committed to maintaining the integrity of the league. There will be strict monitoring against match-fixing, and any suspicious activities will be thoroughly investigated,” said Nirmal Chettri, a core member of FDPL.

Two Sikkimese players were previously linked to the Mizoram Premier League scandal. However, investigations cleared both of them of any wrongdoing. FDPL confirmed that both players will take part in SPL Season 3.

To further strengthen discipline, FDPL has also introduced a zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse. “We will conduct random drug checks if any player comes under suspicion. Team managers have already been informed about this policy,” Chettri added.

With new rules in place and an extra team added to the mix, the SPL Season 3 promises to deliver top-class football while ensuring a fair and clean game environment for players and fans alike.
