Sikkim: Prem Singh Tamang to take oath as CM for second term on June 9

Chief Minister-elect Prem Singh Tamang will take oath as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for the second consecutive term on June 9, 2024.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Prem Singh Tamang shared details about his oath-taking ceremony and said that he will extend an invitation to all the Chief Ministers of Northeastern states, and they will come if their schedule allows them.

Prem Singh Tamang has been unanimously elected for his second term and as the Leader of the Legislature for Sikkim Krantikari Morcha President (SKM) after the party stormed back into power in the state winning 31 out of the 32 Assembly seats in the Sikkim Assembly Election on June 2, 2024.

The opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has managed to win only one seat-Syari.

Prem Singh Tamang had contested from Rhenock Assembly seat in Gangtok district and Soreng-Chakung Assembly seat in Soreng district.

He won the Rhenock seat defeating SDF candidate Som Nath Poudyal with a margin of 7044 votes.

He won the Soreng-Chakung seat defeating SDF’s Dr. A D Subba with a margin of 5128 votes.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the SKM won 17 seats, while the SDF secured 15 seats.
