MP Subba, in Estimates Committee meeting, called for better policies to protect farmers' incomes during the shift to organic farming.

Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba has urged the Union government to address the disparities that exist between employees of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and those in the Agriculture Department, highlighting the need for greater uniformity and fairness in employment terms across sectors.

He stated this during the Estimates Committee meeting at the Parliament Annexe Building today which was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal. The meeting focused on promoting natural and organic farming, alongside key issues related to Krishi Vigyan Kendras and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

During the discussions, MP Subba praised the Government of India for its efforts to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture, emphasizing the importance of transitioning towards more sustainable farming practices. However, he stressed the need for better management policies to ensure that farmers’ incomes are protected during this transition to organic methods.

He also highlighted the importance of balancing ecological sustainability with the welfare of farmers and agricultural workers, calling for a coordinated approach to agricultural reform.
