Sikkim: Four of same family, driver drown as car falls into Teesta River

In a tragic incident, at least 5 people, four of them belonging to the same family, drowned after the car they were travelling in plunged into the Teesta river at Lekhubir along Sikkim-West Bengal border.

The persons who were on board the ill-fated car have been identified as – Chandan Rai, Tulsi Rai, Sargam Rai, Sakhi Rai and their driver Deodut Tamang.

Meanwhile, the body of Sakhi Rai has been recovered. However, search and rescue operations are underway to trace the bodies of the remaining 4 persons.

The deceased were residents of Gangtok and were travelling to Birpara, to take part in a religious ceremony.
