Chamling stressed that the defeat extended beyond party lines, calling it a setback for the people of Sikkim.
Former Chief Minister and SDF Supremo Pawan Chamling has made his first public statement since his party’s defeat in the 2024 General Elections. In a social media post titled “Message to the People of Sikkim”, Chamling alleged widespread irregularities during the election, accusing the ruling SKM government of unethical practices to secure victory.
Chamling claimed that the SKM employed tactics such as the misuse of black money, fake government schemes like the Garib Awas Yojana, fraudulent appointment orders, muscle power, and the politicisation of religion and caste. He also alleged tampering with voting machines. Highlighting the divisions caused by the elections, he stated, “SKM supporters are happy while SDF supporters are unhappy; this is the reality of elections.”
However, Chamling stressed that the defeat extended beyond party lines, calling it a setback for the people of Sikkim. He expressed concerns about the state’s unique identity, rights, and future being compromised, describing the election results as a redefinition of what it means to be Sikkimese.
Chamling urged the people to prioritise democracy and collective decision-making to safeguard Sikkim’s heritage and progress. “In every election, it is essential for the people of Sikkim—the Janta—to emerge victorious, as their triumph ensures the state’s progress and future,” he concluded, calling for unity and foresight in Sikkim’s democratic journey.
