Sikkim: CAP calls CM Tamang-led delegation’s visit to Delhi seeking tribal status ‘drama’

The Citizen Action Party (CAP) in Sikkim has called the delegation of 12 indigenous communities led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang which recently visited Delhi demanding reservation of seats for Limboo and Tamang communities in Sikkim Legislative Assembly and tribal status for 12 left out communities of the state a ‘playact’, a ‘drama’ and just a photo session.
Addressing a press conference today, Chief Spokesperson of CAP, DB Chauhan said, “Chief Minister Tamang recently went to Delhi with a delegation, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a few other leaders, clicked pictures and returned. He had 5 years of time. If he was serious about the issues, why did not he act on it during this period?.”
“In the last five years, Tamang’s government did nothing to address the issues. However, when the winter session of Parliament began recently, Chief Minister Tamang recently went to Delhi along with delegation, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a few other leaders, clicked pictures and came back. Nothing will come of it. It is just another form of deceit for the people of the state,” he added.
He also stated that the state government might have organized a lobby before the list of business about the Limboo-Tamamg seat and the recognition of 12 left out communities before raising this issue at the Parliament.
He stated that these two issues were not listed on the agenda for the Parliament’s winter session.
Speaking about the previous government’s seriousness in the issues, he stated that both the previous Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) government and the present Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM)government are responsible for not brining this matter to the Parliament.
Worth mentioning here that various groups and organisations representing both communities have been pushing for 6 separate Limboo Tamang tribal seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly.
On September 22, 2018, Law Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha presented a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the PM’s visit to Sikkim requesting him to look into the matter.
