The Sikkim government today for the first time launched a free cervical cancer vaccination programme across the state.

In a bid to save young girls from getting cervical cancer, Sikkim becomes the first state in the country to launch the vaccination programme. Prior to Sikkim, Punjab had launched the programme catering to two districts.

As part of the programme, the Sikkim government will give Quadrivalent HPV vaccines with disposable syringes. The target age group to be covered under the vaccination programme is between 9 years to 14 years.

While the first phase of the programme will cover all schools and educational institutes of the State, the programme will focus on drop out young girls during its second phase.
