Minister of Public Works Department and Cultural Affairs & Heritage and the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha’s sitting MLA for Lachen-Mangan assembly constituency, Samdup Lepcha has expressed confidence that he will win the seat again with an 80% majority vote.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Lepcha stated that he met around 200 students (first-time voters) in Gangtok, yesterday and got a positive response from them.

“About 200 first-time voters interacted with me. They stated that they are quite happy and satisfied with the work done by the Prem Singh Tamang-led Sikkim government till now. We talked about the agendas we have planned for the students if we are elected again. Lachen-Mangan is an earthquake and flood-prone area. The majority of the students from the area travel to Gangtok to study. They requested the government to build a residential complex for them to stay and help financially if SKM voted to power again,” he said.

He also said that considering the developmental work done in the constituency by the Prem Singh Tamang-led government so far, the public will definitely vote for him and elect him again.

He is up against former Rajya Sabha MP and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) candidate Hissey Lachungpa.

“Even though Hissey Lachungpa is a veteran politician, who has served the state for longer than me, given the manner in which Prem Singh Tamang has worked for the development and social welfare of the people of the state, I am confident that I will win the seat again with an 80% majority vote,” Samdup Lepcha added.

Speaking about the road condition of Lachen which was washed out
by the devastating flood in the Teesta river basin caused by the glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) that occurred at the Lhonak Lake in the Chungthang area of North Sikkim in October last year will reopen tomorrow.

Voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly will be held on April 19 and counting will take place on June 2.
