In the run-up to the upcoming assembly elections in Sikkim, the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is leaving no stone unturned to woo voters.

SDF today made yet another enticing promise and said that if voted to power, the state government employees would be granted a holiday on their birthdays.

Former Chief Minister of the state and president of the SDF, Pawan Chamling today campaigned for three constituencies of North Sikkim – Dzongu, Lachen-Mangan and Kabi-Lungchok at Mangshila.

Addressing the public, Chamling said, “If we get elected this time, the government employees would be able to take a holiday on their birthdays.”

The promise of a birthday holiday is being positioned as a gesture of appreciation towards the workforce and an effort to improve their overall well-being.

Chamling also vowed to prevent political victimization of public servants and said, “We will amend the Service Conduct rules and prohibit political victimization transfers of government employees after we form the government.”

Additionally, Pawan Chamling has promised to scrap all the upcoming or planned hydroelectric projects in Dzongu if elected.

“Soon after the formation of the SDF government, all the power projects in Dzongu like Panam HEP and Teesta-IV which have been sanctioned will be closed down,” he said.

Voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly and the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state will be held on April 19 and counting will take place on June 2.
