The Sikkim government on Monday notified new measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. All shops except medical, ration and vegetable vendors in market areas will remain closed on Saturdays

The Sikkim government on Monday notified new measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

All shops except medical, ration and vegetable vendors in market areas will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays till 30th April in the state. During this period, the normal weekly scheduled closure will also remain suspended.

For tourists carrying RT-PCR test reports older than 72 hours, rapid antigen test facilities will be set up at Rangpo and Meli borders, for which separate standard operating procedures will be issued by the state health department.

Moreover, from 17th April, the number of persons at social, political and religious gatherings has been restricted to 50 at a time with prior permission from the district administration.

All such gatherings must follow COVID-19 protocols including mask wearing, social distancing and hand-sanitising.

Sikkim registered a single-day surge of over 50 new cases of novel coronavirus on Sunday taking the total number of active cases to 174. The overall tally of positive cases stands at 6,410 so far.
