Shillong to Get its Third 5-Star Hotel, Aurika by Lemon Tree Hotels

The Aurika Hotel will be a luxury 5-star hotel with 130 rooms and will be constructed at a cost of Rs 124 crores.

Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya and a tourist hotspot will get its third 5-star hotel, the Aurika Hotel brought by Lemon Tree group of hotels.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma laid the foundation for the luxury hotel on Wednesday in Polo, Shillong.

The 5-star property is a joint venture between the Meghalaya Government and the Lemon Tree Hotels and will be built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) route.

The Aurika Hotel will have 130 rooms and will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 124 crores. It will come up in place of the existing Orchid Hotel in Polo.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sangma said that the project will contribute to tourism growth, economic growth, and employment for the youth. He added that the investments in the tourism sector will create over 1 lakh jobs in the state.

He said that it will be befitting to name the hotel Aurika ‘Orchid’ Hotel, keeping the beloved Orchid name intact and requested the proprietors of Lemon Tree Hotels to consider the possibility.
