SFA President Menla Ethenpa Will Represent India at Key AFC Congress Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Sikkim Football Association (SFA) president Menla Ethenpa will represent India at the 35th Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Congress being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from April 11 to 13. Ethenpa, who also serves as the chairperson of the AIFF finance committee, is part of a three-member Indian delegation led by All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Kalyan Choubey and treasurer K. Ajay.
The SFA expressed pride and happiness over Ethenpa’s selection to represent India on such a prestigious international platform. His participation not only highlights Sikkim’s contribution to Indian football but also strengthens the region’s presence in the global football administration.
According to a press release, this year’s AFC Congress holds significant importance in light of the upcoming 23rd FIFA World Cup, scheduled for June- July 2026. The tournament will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the first time the event will be held across three nations.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will also mark a historic shift in format, with 48 teams participating instead of the traditional 32. This expansion aims to promote greater global representation and competitiveness in the tournament.
