Security Cover of Ex Manipur CM N Biren Singh Scaled Down, Z Category Still Remains

In a significant development, the security cover of former Manipur Chief Minister, N.Biren Sigh has been scaled down.

In an order issue from the Manipur Police Headquarters, it has been stated that consequent upon the resignation of N Biren Singh as Chief Minister on 9 February 2025, and subsequent proclamation of President’s Rule in the state on 13 February, the overall security aspects have been reviewed and from now on the security cover of N Biren Singh will consist of three Assistant Sub Inspectors, one head constable and two constables of Manipur Police.

Prior to the issuance of the order Biren Singh’s security cover consisted of 23 Manipur Police personnel and now 17 personnel have been removed bringing the number down to 6.

However, the former Chief Minister will continue to have Z category security. The number of CAPF personnel which is 4 to 6 at any point of time still remains attached with him.

Usually, Z category security detail has 22 personnel, including 4 to 6 CAPFs commandos and police personnel. Further, in Z category security, the convoy typically consists of 5 or more vehicles, with at least one being a bulletproof vehicle. The exact number of vehicles can vary depending on the specific needs and circumstances.
