Second body of miner retrieved at tragedy-hit coal mine in Meghalaya

After days of relentless efforts by the Indian Navy and the NDRF, the second body of a miner was successfully retrieved from the rat hole coal mine in Meghalaya’s East

After days of relentless efforts by the Indian Navy and the NDRF, the second body of a miner was successfully retrieved from the rat hole coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills.

Five persons including 4 NDRF and 1 Navy personnel went down into the main shaft to retrieve the body.

The body was recovered from 200 ft inside the rat hole mine with the help of a underwater ROV.

The packed body was pulled out from the shaft at about 1.30 on Wednesday afternoon and handed over to officer in charge PS Saipung. The body was further dispatched to civil hospital at Khliehriat for post mortem.

Meanwhile, operations continue to retrieve the other trapped bodies.
