2-wheeler dealers are charging students upto Rs 4000
Scooters meant as scholarship for meritorious students of Assam are being sold. A scam has been busted as beneficiary students have alleged that they are being charged anywhere between Rs 3500-4000 per scooter.
These accusations have come from the Sribhumi and Goalpara districts of the state.
As per the allegations, the 2-wheeler dealers are charging money from the students on one pretext or the other.
Under the Pragyan Bharti Scheme, the Assam government started the Dr.Bani Kanta Kakati
Merit Award under which scooters are given to girl students securing 60% or more and for boy students securing 75% or more marks in the H.S.S.L.C. Examination.
Earlier, Assam Education minister Ranoj Pegu had cautioned students and their guardians against falling for scams that pretend to be requesting money for UPI insurance and registration.
The Education minister had assured that no further financial transactions are required because the government has already covered the insurance and registration costs related to the scooter distribution.
