Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons on his way to join the ICC Cricket World Cup. The 36-year-old skipper reportedly received not one, but three speeding tickets on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, as per the Pune Mirror’s report.
In an apparent rush to reach up with his team for the ongoing World Cup, Rohit Sharma pushed the pedal to the metal in his Lamborghini, clocking speeds over 200 km/h. At one point during this high-speed escapade, he even reached to 215 km/h.
The breakneck speed at which Sharma was racing down the highway left traffic police officials considerably concerned. In response to this driving, they offered an alternative solution – urging the cricket captain to travel alongside his team in the safety of the team bus, which would be accompanied by a police escort.
However, Rohit Sharma’s cricketing prowess remains undeniable. Following a disappointing start in India’s World Cup opener against Australia where he registered a duck, the right-handed batter made a remarkable comeback. In the subsequent two games against Afghanistan and Pakistan, he displayed his prowess by scoring a century and a half-century, instrumental in India successfully chasing down targets of 273 and 192 runs, respectively.
With 217 runs under his belt at an impressive average of 72.33 in just three matches, Sharma currently stands as the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament. Notably, his exceptional performance against Afghanistan secured him two distinct records – the most sixes hit by a player in all three formats and the most centuries scored by a single player in ODI World Cup history.
