Regional Parties Chase Local, Short Term Gains: Tripura CM Manik Saha Hits Out at Allies Motha, IPFT

Saha said that arrests and deportations of illegal infiltrators have significantly increased under the current government.
Amid mounting criticism from two of its alliance partners — TIPRA Motha and the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) — over what they term as “unsatisfactory action” on the issue of illegal migration, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has sent a strong message that the BJP-led government will not yield to political pressure, even from allies.
Without naming any particular party, CM Saha, speaking to reporters in the sidelines of inauguration of Cyber Police Station on Saturday asserted that the BJP is a national party committed to safeguarding the nation’s interest, unlike regional forces that, he said, often chase local or short-term gains.
His remarks came in the wake of BJP’s allies in Tripura – Tipra Motha and IPFT, accusing the BJP government of failing to identify and deport illegal migrants within the one-month deadline set by Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Citing data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Saha said that arrests and deportations of illegal infiltrators have significantly increased under the current government.
“Earlier, illegal migrants used to settle here easily, but now due to the government’s strong action, they are choosing to leave Tripura,” he claimed.
The Chief Minister also revealed that many of these infiltrators had managed to illegally obtain identity documents, including Aadhaar and other residency proofs.
“I have ordered a thorough investigation into how they procured these documents and who helped them. Those responsible will be brought to book,” he said.
Highlighting a shift in perception, Saha stated that illegal immigrants who once saw Tripura as a safe haven now consider it a risk zone.
“Earlier it was ease of coming, ease of doing business. Now, it’s ease of leaving. The message has reached across the border — that settling in Tripura is no longer beneficial, as deportations are swift and the law is taking its course,” he said.
The Chief Minister had send a firm signal to alliance partners that his government shall not act under any pressure as he viewed that BJP’s commitment is to the nation and its security, not to any regional appeasement.
Earlier, Saha, accompanied by Director General of Police Anurag and other senior officials, inaugurated the Cyber Crime Police Station at AD Nagar.
Addressing the gathering at the event, Dr. Saha highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime in the state, terming it a matter of serious concern. He informed that the state police have so far recovered approximately Rs 5 crore from various cyber fraud cases, underscoring the government’s commitment to tackling digital crimes effectively.
