Red Alert Issued for Senapati and Tamenglong in Manipur, DC Advises Public to Stay Alert Amid Heavy Rain, Thunderstorm and Lightning Warning

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the National Weather Forecasting Centre has issued a Red Alert for Senapati and Tamenglong in Manipur till May 31 and an Orange Alert till June 3 as the districts are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds starting tomorrow.
In view of the above warning, Deputy Commissioner of Senapati has asked the public to stay informed by following official weather forecasts and alerts issued by local and national authorities. People have been advised to avoid travelling during periods of intense rainfall or wind but if necessary or unavoidable, urged to check for traffic congestion and advisories before departure.
The DC advised people not to take shelter under trees or stay near metal objects during thunderstorms and lightning, to reinforce and secure loose objects in and around one’s home, to postpone outdoor activities including farming and fishing until the situation improves, to stay away from vulnerable structures, flood-prone zones, rivers, and steep slopes to unplug electrical appliances and avoid using electronic devices during lightning.
