The demonstration is part of a broader wave of protests in Tripura, a state sharing an 856 km-long border with Bangladesh.
A massive protest, including a sit-in protest, erupted on Monday in front of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala, Tripura, in response to ongoing atrocities against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
Organized by the ‘Hindu Sangharsh Samity,’ a right-wing organization, the protest drew participation from a broad section of the community, condemning the illegal detention of ISKCON member Chinmoy Das Prabhu by the Bangladesh interim government.
The peaceful sit-in, held near the Mahatma Gandhi Statue at Circuit House, took a dramatic turn when a group of protesters broke through a police barricade and entered the Assistant High Commissioner’s office.
The incident stirred immediate action from local authorities, with DGP (I&O) Anuragh Dhankar and SP West Tripura district Dr Kiran Kumar arriving at the scene to investigate.
During the protest, a delegation of six individuals attempted to submit a memorandum to the Assistant High Commissioner. One protestor emphasized the inhumane conditions surrounding Chinmoy Das Prabhu’s detention, stating, “They didn’t even serve him food. This is illegal and unacceptable. The Bangladesh interim government has illegally arrested Hindu leader and ISKCON member Chinmoy Das Prabhu. What we heard is that they didn’t even serve food to him. This is totally illegal and inhumane. We are demanding the immediate release of Chinmoy Das Prabhu. As Hindus, we cannot tolerate the attacks on Hindu minorities living in Bangladesh.”
The demonstration is part of a broader wave of protests in Tripura, a state sharing an 856 km-long border with Bangladesh. Demonstrators have been calling for the protection of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, frequently burning effigies of officials like Md Yunus to voice their anger over the attacks on religious minorities in the neighbouring country.
