Jahar Debnath, a retired school teacher, stirred widespread outrage after posting a provocative message on Facebook.

Amid nationwide grief and anger over the recent terrorist killings in Pahalgam, Kashmir, a controversial Facebook post has led to the arrest of a retired teacher and his close associate in Ambassa, Tripura.

Jahar Debnath, a retired school teacher, stirred widespread outrage after posting a provocative message on Facebook. In the post, Debnath praised “Allah” as great and powerful while allegedly mocking Hindu gods and goddesses an act that deeply offended religious sentiments. The post was shared by Kuldeep Mondal, reportedly a close associate of Debnath.

As the post circulated widely on Thursday night, it triggered strong reaction from the local Sanatani Hindu community. By Friday morning, protests had erupted across Ambassa. Hundreds took to the streets, blocking roads including the area outside Debnath’s residence and demanding immediate action.

Responding to the growing unrest, Ambassa Police arrested both Debnath and Mondal by Friday afternoon. According to local sources, cases have been registered against the duo under sections related to inciting religious hatred and disturbing communal harmony. However, both individuals have denied the allegations.

While police have not made an official statement, the two are expected to be presented before the local court on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Sonamura, Sepahijala district, a man identified as Jahir Mia was summoned to the local police station for allegedly making derogatory social media remarks. He was released after deleting the posts and submitting a written pledge to the SDM, promising not to repeat such behavior.
