Debbarma urged everyone to avoid making provocative statements that could exacerbate the situation.

Tipra Motha founder and Royal scion Pradyot Debbarma has expressed concern over reports of increased attacks on minorities and indigenous tribes in Bangladesh after the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday.

Debbarma hoped that the Government of India will engage in talks with the incoming interim government in Bangladesh to ensure the protection of vulnerable communities.

He also urged everyone to avoid making provocative statements that could exacerbate the situation.

“Attacks on minorities and our indigenous people living in bangladesh has increased. This is deeply concerning and I am sure the GOI will have a talk with whoever takes over the interim government. We must also be careful that no provocative statement is given from our side,” Debbarma posted on X.

Earlier on Monday, Debbarma had called on the Central government to prepare a ‘Plan B’ in response to the unfolding events in Bangladesh, highlighting the potential impact on the bordering Indian states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and West Bengal. He said that these states would be on the front line of the Bangladesh crisis.

“A strong anti India sentiment is growing just like in Maldives in Bangladesh . Tripura West Bengal ,Meghalaya , Assam will be frontline of anything occurs there . GOI must have a plan B in case something happens now or in the future . The Native people are the best defence,” Debbarma posted on X.

He also spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the same and HM Shah said that he is monitoring the situation and asked security forces to remain vigil at the borders.

He also has assured all that the borders of India are well protected and no illegal influx will be allowed, said Debbarma.

It may be mentioned here that there are an estimated 19,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, of which about 9,000 are students.

The protests in Bangladesh have erupted due to demands for reforming the quota system that reserves civil service jobs for specific groups, including descendants of 1971 war veterans.

At least 300 people were killed during the violence in just 3 weeks, making it the bloodiest phase in Bangladesh’s civil movement history.
