Popular Mizo Artist Alex Lalchhuankima Passes Away at 38

Over the past decade, he remained a prominent figure in the state's music and entertainment scene.

Renowned Mizo singer and actor Alex Lalchhuankima passed away early this morning at 3:15 a.m. He was 38.

He was battling cancer for more than five years and had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment until his demise. Throughout his illness, he received overwhelming support from fellow Mizo artists and the wider community.

Alex rose to fame after his standout performance in Mizo Idol Season 1 in 2007 and quickly became a household name across Mizoram.

Known for his exceptional vocal talent, Alex was one of the few Mizo artists recognised for having a perfect pitch for country music. Over the past decade, he remained a prominent figure in the state’s music and entertainment scene.

Apart from his musical career, he was also a famous actor in the state. He starred in several local films, most notably “Khawnglung Run”, a historical drama that remains one of the most widely viewed Mizo films to date.

Apart from that, he also starred in “Dakpu” in 2024 despite already being diagnosed with cancer.

Alex married fellow Gospel singer Gracy in 2014, and the couple has one daughter.
