Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim on May 29 to join the Statehood Celebrations, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has confirmed. The Chief Minister said that May 29 has been almost finalised, and the Sikkim government is in full preparation for the high-profile visit.
Earlier, the state government had planned to hold the celebration at Manan Kendra, a prominent cultural venue in Gangtok. However, the plan has now been revised, and the event will take place at Paljor Stadium, the largest stadium in the state, where a grand program is being organized.
According to the Chief Minister, the event is expected to witness a massive turnout, with more than one lakh people likely to gather to welcome the Prime Minister.
The state recently celebrated Sikkim Day on May 16, marking the 50th anniversary of Sikkim’s statehood. The event, held to commemorate the day Sikkim officially became the 22nd state of India in 1975, was attended by Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and other prominent leaders.
