The Prime Minister stated that the animals in the village have also learnt to pose for pictures.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly programme, Mann Ki Baat, shared a heartwarming story of the relationship between humans and animals in Barekuri village in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

In his latest 113th episode of his monthly broadcast on Sunday, PM Modi described how the villagers have developed a deep connection with the gibbons, incorporating them into their traditions.

He said, “My dear countrymen, you must have seen so many films on the love between humans and animals! But a real story is being made in Assam these days. In the small village of Barekuri in the Tinsukia district of Assam, people of the Moran community live beside ‘Hoolock Gibbon’, also called ‘Holo Monkey.”

“Hoolock Gibbons have made this village their home. You will be surprised to know that the people of this village share a deep bond with Hoolock Gibbons. The people of the village still follow their traditional values. Therefore, they do all those things, which would strengthen their relationship with Gibbons. When they realised that Gibbons love bananas, they also started cultivating bananas,” the Prime Minister said.
“Besides, they perform rituals related to gibbons’ birth and death just as they do for their own people,” PM Modi added.

PM Modi also pointed out that the villagers recently addressed issues caused by electric wires affecting the gibbons and found a solution. Modi said, “Recently, the gibbons were facing hardships due to the electricity wires passing nearby. So the people of this village raised this issue with the government and soon a solution was found.”

The Prime Minister stated that the animals in the village have also learnt to pose for pictures.
Meanwhile, the official page of Chief Minister’s Office took to social media platform X and shared the quotes from PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.

“This inspiring account of human-animal bonding from Tinsukia, Assam, as shared by Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi, showcases our dedication to preserving biodiversity and safeguarding the natural environment. This not only highlights the harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife but also reinforces Assam’s commitment to nurturing its rich ecological heritage”, CMO Tweeted.

PM Modi also praised the use of 3D printing technology in Arunachal Pradesh, which is helping to protect animals from being hunted for their horns and teeth.

“Our young friends in Arunachal Pradesh are also not behind in showing their love for animals. Some of our friends have started using 3D printing technology because they want to save animals from being hunted,” he said.

“They create replicas of animal teeth and horns, which are then used to make items like dresses and caps. This innovative approach, using biodegradable materials, is a remarkable alternative,” he added.
