Pip Soreng along India-China Border Cut Off for 4 Months, Arunachal MP Seeks More Funds to Fix Landslides Battered Infra

MP Tapir Gao highlighted that the natural disasters that have struck the state this year have damaged road connectivity in the frontier state.
Arunachal Pradesh East Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao has sought additional funds from the Centre for the restoration of roads, bridges and other infrastructures damaged by natural disasters like rain, floods and landslides.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, MP Tapir Gao highlighted that the natural disasters that have struck the state this year have damaged road connectivity in the frontier state, particularly the strategic ones that lead to the borders with China. As a result, communication has been cut off to several locations for more than 4 months, completely preventing the supply of essentials.
“Due to the insistent rains and landslides over the last few months, Tezu-Walong road was severely impacted. The Kurung Kumey Bridge in Upper Subansiri was washed away completely. Moreover, Pip Sorang located along the India-China border has been cut off for 4 months now and supply of essentials has been totally snapped.”
The MP said, ” In the Northeastern region, it rains for 6 months every year and due to continuous rains and rain-triggered landslides, floods destroy the roads. Areas like Pip Sorang, Mechhuka, Geling, Tuting, Anini and Walong come to a grinding halt owing to such challenges posed by the weather conditions every year.
The MP said that it comes as a big burden for the state government alone to restore road connectivity and sought additional funds for the maintenance of state and national highways in the state.
Over 72,900 people and 257 villages have so far been affected by floods and landslips in Arunachal Pradesh since April this year.
