Paris Olympics 2024: Northeast’s Tarundeep Rai among Indian archers to kick start India’s campaign tomorrow

Tarundeep, 40, will be making his 4th Olympic appearance tomorrow

As India starts its campaign in the Paris Olympics 2024, Sikkim’s ace archer Tarundeep Rai will be among the 6 archers from India who will start the medal hunt in the world’s biggest sporting event.

All you need to know about Tarundeep Rai:

Born on 22 February 1984, Tarundeep Rai hails from Namchi in Sikkim. A Padma Shri awardee, Tarundeep is a three time Olympian.

He made his international debut at the age of 19 in 2003 at the Asian Archery Championship 2003 held at Yangon, Myanmar.

He has so far won two silver at the World Championships (2005, 2019), nine World Cup medals, including three gold, a silver and a bronze in Asian Games, two silver and a bronze in Asian Championships.
All that Tarundeep needs is a medal that has the Olympic rings engraved on it.

The Sikkimese veteran was part of the Indian Olympic teams at the 2004 Athens, 2012 London and 2021 Tokyo Olympics. He exited in the first round in the individual event in Athens, and in the second round in both 2012 and 2021 editions. In Tokyo, he reached the quarterfinals of the men’s team event.

Archery Events Tomorrow at Paris Olympics 2024:

Women’s Individual Ranking Round (Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur) | 1pm

Archery | Men’s Individual Ranking Round (B. Dhiraj, Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav) | 5:45pm

India has sent a 117- member strong contingent—70 males and 47 females players, who will compete in 69 medal events across 16 sports.

India registered its best-ever medal tally in the Tokyo Olympics winning 7 medals. This time the target is to take it to double digits.

Neeraj Chopra, Nikhat Zareen, Sift Kaur Samra, Lovlina Borgohain, Mirabai Chanu are few of the standout athletes expected to bring medals back home.
