They travelled from Bongaigaon in Assam to Majithar in Sikkim to meet their daughter who was studying at the Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT). They wanted to surprise her. But they ended up getting the worst surprise of their life.

Just when they reached Majithar and was about to go and meet their daughter, a first-year B.Tech CSE student at SMIT, they got the news that she had jumped off the 8th Floor of Girls Hostel No 4 of SMIT and died.

The student’s father is a doctor and was hoping that his daughter too will become a doctor. But those dreams were crushed today.

It is still not known why the student committed suicide. The Institute has appealed to all not to spread any mis-information or share any picture or information of the deceased. The Institute has urged all to respect the deceased and her family’s privacy.
