Over 300 Illegal Arms Recovered, Major Success for Manipur Police and Security Forces

In a major success for Manipur Police and security forces, over 300 illegal arms have been recovered in a joint operation launched by Manipur Police, CAPFs, Army and Assam Rifles in five valley districts of Manipur – Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal East and imphal West.

According to Manipur Police, the joint operation was launched in the intervening night of June 13-14, following the receipt of specific intelligence input about the presence of large cache of arms and ammunition stashed in different areas of the valley districts.

Simultaneous search operations were launched at different locations in the outskirts of the five valley districts leading to the recovery of a total of 328 rifles which include 151 SLR rifle, 65 INSAS rifle, 73 Rifle, 5 Carbine gun, 2 MP5 gun, 12 LMG rifle, 6 AK series rifle, 2 Amogh rifle, 1 Mortar,6 Pistol, 2 Barrel gun, 1 AR 15 gun and 2 Fare gun.

The other recoveries are 591 Magazines (assorted), 3534 SLR rounds , 2186 INSAS rounds, 2252, Three Not Three rounds, 234 AK rounds, 407 Amogh rounds, 10 Grenades, 20 Nine Millimeter rounds, 3 Lethods, 7 Detonators and 3 Paras.

Speaking to media on the recovery, Manipur Police ADG, Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo said, “These intelligence based operations mark a major achievement for the Manipur Police and the security forces in their continued efforts to restore normalcy, maintain public order and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their properties. The Manipur Police reiterates its commitment to a peaceful and secure Manipur. The public is urged to cooperate with police and security forces and report any suspicious activities or information related to illegal weapons to the nearest police station or central control room.”

Lhatoo further said, “Senior police officials are in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner to restore normalcy, maintain public order and ensure the safety and security of citizens and their properties.”

Significantly this is one of the major recoveries of arms and ammunition made by Manipur Police and security forces ever since violence erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023. Around 6,000 weapons and lakhs of ammunitions were looted from police armouries.
