Over 15 Labourers Trapped Inside Rat Hole Coal Mine in Assam

SDRF team from Hojai has been rushed to the incident site but rescue operation will start tomorrow morning.

Over 15 labourers working in a rat hole coal mine in Assam’s Dima Hasao district are trapped over 400 metres inside the mine. The incident has been reported from Kalamati in Umrangso where at least 32 labourers were trapped inside the rat hole coal mine named Asom Quarry. 17 of the trapped miners have managed to come out of the coal mine, back from the jaws of death, locals said.

The incident took place at 8 AM today and the Police was informed around 1 PM. The sardar or manager of the labourers is absconding, police said.

Dima Hasao DC Simanta Kumar Das has reached the site.

According to locals, sudden surge in the water level inside the rat hole coal mine trapped the miners making it impossible for them to come out of the tiny coal mine.

NDRF and SDRF teams have rushed to the site but are yet to reach the incident site. SDRF team from Hojai has been rushed to the incident site but rescue operation will start tomorrow morning. Army and NDRF teams from Delhi are also being flown in.
