Over 100 Hours, Security Forces Find No Trace of Workers Abducted From Near Indo-Myanmar Border

Security forces believe that the NSCN (K-YA), a militant group active in the region, is responsible for the abduction.
More than 100 hours have passed since two workers were abducted from an illegal timber operation camp in Longvi village, located near the Indo-Myanmar border in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. Despite continuous efforts, security forces have not been able to trace the whereabouts of the abducted duo.
The missing workers have been identified as Gobin Gogoi and Madan Sonar. Reliable sources suggest they may have been taken to a rebel group’s camp in Myanmar. Officials suspect extortion as the primary motive behind the abduction.
Security forces believe that the NSCN (K-YA), a militant group active in the region, is responsible for the abduction. The group reportedly attacked the illegal timber camp, setting it ablaze. During the assault, the heavily armed militants also destroyed equipment, including a JCB and an excavator used by the timber operators.
As per sources the illegal timber trade is rampant across eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Militant groups frequently target illegal timber operators, businessmen, tea garden owners, and others for extortion and so-called taxes.
North East Live had earlier exposed how militant groups, including the NSCN (K-YA), exploit the region’s illegal timber operations to fund their activities. Sunday’s attack and the subsequent abduction of the two workers are believed to be linked to this extortion racket.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the missing workers, but the dense forest terrain and the cross-border presence of militant groups pose significant challenges for security forces.
