Outrage in Dima Hasao Over Roshmita Hojai’s Death, Locals Demand CBI Probe and National Media Attention

Assam's Roshmita Hojai: All Dimasa Students Union President Uttam Langthasa criticised the national media for its selective coverage.
The mysterious death of 26-year-old Roshmita Hojai from Assam’s Dima Hasao district has sparked widespread outrage among local organisations and political bodies, who are now demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and equal attention from the national media.
The Dimasa Apex Body Jadikhe Naiso Hosom (JNH) President, Kailan Daolagupu, expressed deep concern over the safety of students from the Northeast, stating that Roshmita’s case is not isolated. He demanded a CBI inquiry for a fair and transparent investigation.
Moreover, JNH Vice-President Arup Gorlosa also urged for a CBI inquiry, urging swift justice for Roshmita’s grieving family.
All Dimasa Students Union President Uttam Langthasa criticised the national media for its selective coverage.
“The media gave massive attention to the Indore couple murder in Sohra, Meghalaya. But when it comes to a Northeast girl, no one seems to care,” he said, appealing for equal coverage for Rashmita’s case just like the Raja Raghuvanshi case.
It needs to be mentioned that, Roshmita, an engineering graduate from Haryana and an APSC aspirant from Guwahati, had travelled to New Delhi to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) exam. On the evening of June 5, she informed her mother that she was returning home by train. After that, she went missing.
Days later, her body was found on the banks of a river in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Two men, Hemant Sharma of Mandirgarh (Delhi) and Pankaj Kok of Rohtak have been arrested for questioning.
Adding to the public outcry, CCTV visuals of Rashmita seen alive for the last time in Rishikesh have gone viral, further intensifying suspicions about her death.
The incident has not only triggered demands for justice but also reignited a long-standing grievance in the Northeast systemic apathy and underrepresentation in national narratives. With growing calls for accountability, many hope the case receives the attention and justice it rightfully deserves.
