Tripura: Watercolour art exhibition ‘Orra’ concludes in Agartala

‘Orra’ meaning ‘They’ in Bengali, a solo watercolor art exhibition of 150 portraits, concluded at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala yesterday.

Reportedly this is the first of its kind exhibition in Tripura where only the watercolour art of an artist has been displayed.

The drawings have been created by a local young artist, Suman Bhattacharjee who completed the entire work during the COVID-19 lockdown. Though Suman had produced around 200 portraits, only 150 selected works of his were exhibited and got a good response as a large number of his creations were sold out.

Notably, Suman’s exhibition was denied permission earlier due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

Now with the money, he shall gather by selling the portraits, he wishes to use it for those who have been badly affected by the pandemic.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Tripura’s Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in presence of the director ICA department and Sanghamitra Nandi, a renowned artist of the State and who was Suman’s teacher at the government art college of Tripura.

Nandi praised Suman’s work and viewed painting portraits with watercolour as one of the toughest forms of art and said that his art pieces are of international level.
