ONGC Well Blowout: US Experts on Ground to Cap ONGC Well Blowout in Sivasagar
Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday informed that experts from America have arrived at the ONGC well blowout site in Sivasagar and ONGC will activate Plan C to kill the well. Addressing a press conference at CMO on Friday, CM Sharma said,”When there is a gas leakage there are four emergency methods, ONGC or Oil India apply to basically stop the leakage. So in this case they have, ONGC has tried their Plan A and Plan B with multiple variables but it has not succeeded. Today morning, Chairman ONGC has informed me that they are going to activate Plan C. Activating Plan C means capping the entire well. So experts from America has already arrived and in consultation and in coordination with the expert from America, ONGC will start the capping process from tomorrow morning.”
CM Sarma further said that it may take few days, but the team is certain and are confident that they will be able to stop the leakage and bring order to the well. The state government and district administration is cooperating with the ONGC and is hoping that things will come into a proper shape within a very short time.
On the other hand speaking about the assessment of damage by the blowout and compensation to the affected people, CM Sarma said that the process will be done when the capping process successfully ends. “So far as damage and losses to the property, post capping of the well both district administration and ONGC will survey. And whatever, damages is there, definitely ONGC is going to compensate it. That is what the Chairman, ONGC has assured me when he met me day before yesterday.”
It has been 8 days since a well blowout occurred in Sivasagar district of Assam.
The blowout took place on June 12 at Well No RDS 147 of Rig No SKP 135 of Rudrasagar oil field of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) at Barichuk of Bhatiapar. A private firm, SK Petro Services, was operating the well on behalf of the state-run Maharatna company. An official of ONGC had earlier said that it was an old crude well without production, and a perforation job was going on for zone transfer at the time of the blowout.
The Assam government on 16 June announced a financial aid of Rs 25,000 each to about 350 families affected by the blowout.
