CM Sarma has urged Union Minister Singh to direct ONGC to reinforce its technical and leadership presence on site.
The ONGC gas leak has entered its 7th day today with no sign of ONGC being able to contain the spill. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appears quite unhappy and is concerned with ONGC’s casual and lax approach in handling the leak that has affected over 330 families who are now living in relief camps with support from the Assam government.
CM Sarma has shot off off a strongly worded letter to Union Peteoluem Minister Hardeep Puri highlighting ONGC’s lackadaisical approach. He wrote, “.. the local perception is one of inadequate urgency and seriousness in ONGC’s response. Unlike previous incidents handled with a war-footing, the current approach appears procedural and lacking in visibility”.
CM Sarma has urged Union Minister Singh to direct ONGC to reinforce its technical and leadership presence on site, adopt a mission mode approach and step up engagement with the affected people to restore confidence and bring the situation under control at the earliest.
