Amid the escalating Covid situation across the nation, Meghalaya has decided to re-impose a part of the restrictions.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed that the state government has decided to re-impose night curfew starting January 5th in view of the surge in Omicron cases in various parts of the country.

Talking to reporters after the review meeting of the COVID-19 situation in the State in Shillong on January 3rd, Chief Minister Sangma said that the government has also decided to impose restrictions on gatherings besides putting in place the odd-even system for movement of private vehicles.
Chief Minister further informed that the night curfew will be in place from 10pm in Shillong and all other district headquarters.
Meanwhile, tourists coming to the state will have to produce a Covid negative report apart from being double vaccinated.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister also expressed concern over the growing number of OMICRON cases in the country. Conrad Sangma said that transmission of the new variant is very alarming although it’s severity is less as compared to the DELTA variant.
Besides, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also appealed people to follow COVID appropriate behaviour and other protocols.
The situation in Meghalaya was limping back to normalcy as covid induced curbs were slowly being lifted. The state had witnessed a healthy participation of locals and tourists alike in Christmas festivities. However, With the rise of Omicron cases in India concerns were being raised if Tourists could be allowed at the same rate in the state and day-to-day affairs allowed to continue.
