Two cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been detected in India today amidst global fears that the COVID-19 pandemic may soon witness a spike with the emergence of the fast mutating new variant. Both the cases have been reported from Karnataka.

The patients, both males aged 66 and 46 years old had shown mild symptoms. As per reports, the 66-year old patient was fully vaccinated and had come from South Africa via Dubai, while the second one reportedly has no travel history. 

According to reports, the first infected person is a foreign national who had arrived on November 1 and has completed quarantine, and is healthy. 12 primary contacts of the first infected person have tested negative.

Meanwhile,212 primary contacts of the second person have been quarantined and results of their tests are being awaited.
