Arunachal Pradesh: 3 workers abducted by NSCN (K-YA) militants

In a sensational case of abduction by militants, 3 road construction workers were abducted by 10 NSCN (K-YA) militants from Pumao in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Sources informed that the abductees were engaged in the construction of the Pumao – Langkhow Road and were staying at a camp site from where the abduction took place.

Sources also added that the abducted persons were taken to Nyasa in Nagaland. Among the 3, one Bangphua Wangpan a resident of Langkhao village from Longding district has been released by the abductors while the other two are still in the custody of the militants. The two are Hiren Konch a JCB Operator and Ramasish Mahato from Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, security forces informed that extortion might have been the motive for the abduction. It is also reported that a self-styled Colonel, Botai Wangsu, led the group during the abduction.

Reportedly, the militants snatched the mobile phones and vehicle keys at the camp site, due to which the information about the kidnapping reached late on Tuesday evening. The remaining workers had to walk several kilometres to inform the police about the incident.

Earlier too militants from NSCN (K-YA) had abducted construction workers and local villagers from Longding district. Meanwhile Security forces had launched a massive operation to trace out the abducted persons.
