The outfit has initiated a large-scale extortion campaign in Arunachal Pradesh's insurgency-affected Changlang district.

Is the NSCN (K-YA) launched a massive extortion drive in Arunachal Pradesh? If reports are to be believed, the outfit has initiated a large-scale extortion campaign in Arunachal Pradesh’s insurgency-affected Changlang district.

Sources indicate that the group has distributed extortion notes to tea estate owners, contractors, businessmen, and villagers, demanding money under the guise of “so-called taxes.”

In areas like Miao and Kharsang, individuals have been asked to pay specific amounts or face severe consequences. Recently, a 12-member team led by Self-Styled Major Thannong Mossang visited several villages, distributing demand notes. Villagers were instructed to pay Rs 500 as house tax and Rs 1500 as indent tax.

These actions have raised concerns among locals, who fear for their safety. Authorities are yet to respond, but such incidents underline the persistent challenges of insurgency and lawlessness in the region. Strong action is needed to restore peace and protect the livelihoods of those targeted by such illegal activities.
