Northeast Leaders Condemn Deadly Pahalgam Terror Attack, Express Solidarity with Victims

In the wake of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, leaders from the Northeastern states have strongly condemned the violence and extended their condolences to the families of the victims. The deadly incident, which occurred on April 22 in a peaceful meadow near the scenic resort town, has claimed the lives of 28 people, including Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang from Arunachal Pradesh. It marks the deadliest terror attack since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Corporal Hailyang, a native of Tajang village in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district, was visiting Pahalgam with his wife when the attack occurred. His wife survived the assault.
The news of his death sent shockwaves through the region, drawing heartfelt reactions from leaders across the Northeast.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, taking to X, wrote, “I have full faith that Bharat will hunt down each and every one of those cowards responsible for the dastardly attack in #Pahalgam today. The entire nation stands firmly with the bereaved families in this hour of grief.”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Corporal Hailyang, saying, “While visiting Pahalgam with his wife, his life was cruelly taken in a senseless act of terror. He served the nation with courage and honour. Our thoughts are with his loved ones. May they find strength and solace in this unimaginable time of grief. We will always remember Corporal Hailyang for his service and sacrifice. Om Mani Padme Hum.”

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma termed the attack as a “heinous act of violence” and called on citizens to unite against terrorism. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones, and we stand in solidarity with those affected. In the face of hate and violence, I urge everyone to unite against terrorism,” he posted on X.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) conveyed his condolences, stating, “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam… On behalf of the people of Sikkim, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha also voiced his anguish. “Strongly condemn the cowardly attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam—condolences to the families who lost loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he said on X.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla added his voice to the chorus of condemnation, calling the incident “deeply tragic” and extending his condolences to the bereaved while praying for the recovery of the wounded.

The Northeast has come together in a unified show of grief and solidarity, sending a clear message against terrorism. As the nation mourns, security forces continue operations to track down the perpetrators of this horrific act.
