Christmas is celebrated across the Northeast region with special prayers, hymns and mass in Churches. 

Churches across Arunachal Pradesh held special prayers amid the Covid-19 pandemic on Christmas Eve, with many hosting the midnight mass after a gap of almost two years.

However the midnight mass services this year, was organised with additional precautions and measures in the backdrop of the new Omicron variant.

Prominently, midnight mass was also held in Churches in Guwahati last night. A large number of people attended the prayer services as the entire city was soaked in festive fervour. The midnight mass services were held in the Don Bosco Cathedral in Guwahati which was attended by a sizeable number of people.

However, in Shillong, the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians did not organise the midnight mass this time in the wake of the Covid threat. Evening Prayer services were held in two sessions, one held at 7.30 pm and the other at 9.30 pm to avoid overcrowding at the midnight hours.

Christmas fervour was also seen in Tripura state capital Agartala. Celebrations broke out in Agartala with people welcoming the festive occasion with prayers and spreading happiness around. Cakes were cut and distributed to mark the festive occasion as churches were decorated on the festive occasion.
