NIA arrests 3 insurgents linked to 2024 attack on Manipur Security Forces That Left 2 Cops Dead

Three insurgents linked to the deadly January 17, 2024, attack on security forces in Moreh, Tengnoupal district of Manipur, which left two police commandos dead and several others injured have been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) today.

According to the NIA’s statement, Thangminlen Mate, a key conspirator from the Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT) group was arrested in Silchar, Assam on May 19. Two others-Kamginthang Gangte of the Kuki National Army (KNA) and Hentinthang Kipgen, alias Thangneo Kipgen, of the Village Volunteers group were arrested in Imphal on June 6.

The trio, along with their associates, had allegedly planned, conspired, and carried out the attack on an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) post and other security forces in Moreh on January 17, 2024.

Thangminlen Mate was produced before the NIA Special Court in Guwahati and remanded to judicial custody until May 28. He is currently lodged in Central Jail Guwahati.

Meanwhile, the other two accused have also been presented before the Duty Magistrate, who granted them transit remand until June 9, 2025 for their transfer to the NIA Special Court in Guwahati.
