NEHU VC Extends Leave as Education Ministry’s Probe Report Delayed

The committee was tasked with investigating allegations of administrative lapses and mismanagement at NEHU.

Vice Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, Professor P.S. Shukla, extended his leave by 15 days as the Union Education Ministry awaits report of the 2-member investigating committee.

The delay has raised concerns over unresolved allegations of mismanagement at NEHU.

The committee was tasked with investigating allegations of administrative lapses and mismanagement at NEHU.

The committee comprising of Prof. D.P. Singh, former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), and Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath, former Vice Chancellor of Assam University, was initially expected to submit its findings by December 13. They also visited the NEHU campus and talked with the NEHU Community. However, no update has been provided on the report’s status till now.

It may be mentioned that, the panel had already been granted a 15-day extension on November 28 to complete its investigation. With no further communication or clarity on the committee’s findings, Prof. Shukla, whose original leave was to end on December 14, has opted to prolong his absence.
