Nearly 1,500 students from other NE states airlifted from trouble-torn Manipur

Besides the students, many workers and residents of Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Tripura have also returned home safe

Emotions ran high as nearly 1,500 students from the strife-torn Manipur returned to their home states (other Northeastern States) safe and sound. Some had tears of happiness, some heaved a sigh of relief while some could not stop but smile, some still in total disbelief that they are out of danger, safely back home.

Besides the students, many workers and residents of Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Tripura have also returned home safe with the help of their respective state governments, students organistions and efforts of certain individuals.

The state governments airlifted these people from Imphal and used buses to ferry each of the evacuated individual to their respective destination.

A total of 128 students from Sikkim were evacuated on Sunday. They landed in Kolkata and were enroute to Siliguri by bus.

Around 207 students from Arunachal Pradesh have returned home till today. Up to 50 students were evacuated by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) on May 6, while 157 students who were pursuing MBBS, BDS, Nursing, and postgraduate studies in RIMS, Manipur were evacuated last night.

Over 196 Mizos stranded in Imphal due to raging ethnic violence have returned home safe while hundreds of refugees from the neighbouring state have taken shelter in Mizoram.

Tripura government has evacuated 208 students from Manipur so far through two special flights. Besides, TIPRA Moth chief Pradyot Debbarma has also brought many tribal students back to Tripura from Manipur on Sunday.

Over 300 students from Meghalaya who were stranded in Manipur have returned home safe so far.

Nagaland have evacuated over 676 residents from Manipur so far.

Besides the students from NE states, a large number of students from Maharashtra, Telengana, UP and Chhattisgarh too have been airlifted from the strife-torn NE state.
